Finally: DAVE MUSTAINE Is Buds With JAMES HETFIELD & LARS ULRICH Again

"I would say we're probably better off now than we've been for a long time."

The relationship between Dave Mustaine and Metallica's James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich has been rocky in recent years, to say the least. Mustaine has openly pondered why Megadeth has never gone on tour with Metallica, and even accused his former bandmates of trying to hold him back. Mustaine also revealed in recent years that he and Hetfield were trying to work on a project together, but the whole thing tanked thanks to a disagreement over songwriting credits on the No Life 'Til Leather demo.

Despite all that, Mustaine assures everyone that he and both Hetfield and Ulrich are in a better place than they've ever been lately. In an interview with Consequence, Mustaine said he realizes his relationship with his former bandmates comes and goes, but it's all good.

"It took a while for James and Lars and I to kind of come around and become friends again," said Mustaine. "But I would say we're probably better off now than we've been for a long time. And it comes and goes. I think the emotions between all of us, it's probably understandable for a lot of people who break up with someone, it's like a marriage and you part ways and sometimes you try and justify in your head the decision that you make.

"And sometimes the facts are all you need, and other times you feel compelled to kinda tell the story and you don't really need to. And then there are people who tell the story and then add little salacious facts – like a tape recorder that has a feature to add stuff that never happened. So, I just look at that whole period with Metallica as something that was really great for me. And I wish them the best."

Seriously though, if we could just get that No Life 'Til Leather demo, that'd be great.
